Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Thursday said two police teams had been sent to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh to arrest Kawal, who was accused of making anti-national remarks during a recent show in Rewa district.
Mangawan police in Rewa on Wednesday charged Kawal Sharif Parvez with making anti-national remarks on his show and filed a case under sections 505, 153 and 280 of the Indian Penal Code.
Commenting on the case, Mishra said, “I am advising the artists to sing the way they want to sing but they should strictly refrain from speaking against the country. Be it a writer, a shire or a qawwal, they must stay away from anti-national views because this is the age of nationalism and there is a nationalist government in power.
“I directed to file a case against Kawal and send two police teams to Kanpur (UP) to nab the artists and local police are also assisting our team,” he added.
In a video that went viral on social media on Wednesday, Pervez, who had come to perform at Mangawan in Rewa, was heard making anti-national remarks and also telling the country’s top political leadership.
However, later Wednesday, Parvez released a video in which he was seen clarifying his remarks.
“I did not point to anyone and only talked about Khwaja Garib Nawaz. Our leaders are in my heart and soul. I did not insult anyone but I apologize if my comments hurt anyone, “said Parvez.
