Asansol in West Bengal has again become a battleground for both the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party as the TMC has fielded Shatrughan Sinha and the BJP has fielded MLA Agnimitra Paul. The Lok Sabha by-election in Asansol, after Babul Supriya left the BJP and was required as its MP, is scheduled for April 12.
In a tough fight, the BJP relied on former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tripura Chief Minister Biplob Deb to campaign for the party in Asansol. Shankar has criticized the law and order situation in Bengal.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee today campaigned for Sinha, a 3km stretch in Asansol, a seat that has been with the BJP for the last 10 years. During the campaign, he raised the issue of rising fuel prices, saying, “Prices are rising everywhere. People from every corner of India are now looking for opportunities to overthrow the BJP. The people of Asansol have got a chance to vote for them. You know why you are going to vote in Asansol because when you voted for your MP here, he tried but could not work properly for the people because of BJP. Babul Supriya resigned and joined the grassroots. This election is not an election vote, it is a vote of protest. ”
He said, “BJP has again fielded many people from outside like Ravi Shankar Prasad, Biplob Deb.” Attacking Biplob Dev, Banerjee said, “Go and save Tripura. You will not allow opposition. My car. There have been several attacks. “
Banerjee also hinted that more BJP leaders would join the TMC after the Asansol vote. “Notices from ED and CBI cannot control TMC. The ‘game’ will start from Asansol. After this election, we will open the door, then see how many people come. “
