Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday posed a challenge to the BJP-led government at the Center in the Assembly, apparently upset over the arrest of Shiv Sena leader Nawab Malik and the recent crackdown by the Enforcement Directorate on his brother-in-law. He asked, “Where is David?” Does anyone know where he is? You fought the last election in the name of Ram Mandir. Now want to vote in the name of David? Did Obama want a vote in bin Laden’s name? If you have the courage to kill David?
Thackeray was referring to the arrest of Malik in a money laundering case involving underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim. He accused the BJP-led government of using central agencies such as the ED to “annoy and harass” other party leaders and said the saffron bloc had not spared even his family members whom he called an attempt to seize power.
Thackeray said if the BJP at the Center wanted to send him to jail for coming to power, it could do so, but family members should not be harassed. He hit the saffron party three days after ED seized his brother-in-law’s assets worth Rs 6.45 crore on money laundering charges.
“What’s the point of revealing the way you attacked my family and wanted to imprison me?” The court decides based on the evidence … put me in jail, I am not Krishna but can you say you are not Kangs? Thackeray asked.

“If you want to come to power, come to power. But don’t do these heinous deeds to come to power. Do not harass us or anyone else’s family members. We never bothered your family members, “he added.
The Income Tax Department cracked down on Eddie Thackeray’s brother-in-law two weeks after it launched a crackdown on his son and some people believed to be close to Army Minister Anil Parab, along with Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray. The army has accused the BJP of political revenge.
Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis was further accused by Thackeray of “being recruited by the ED”. He asked, “If Nawab Malik had been in a relationship with Dawood Ibrahim for many years, what have the central agencies been doing for so many years? The matter is here ৷ the court. I think LOP (Leader of the Opposition) Farnabis must be appointed by the ED because he Eddie gave all the documents as he said somewhere. “
Calling on the BJP to demand Malik’s resignation, he said, “You want Nawab Malik to resign. First tell me, why did you support Mehbooba Mufti who was sympathetic to Afzal Guru and Burhan Wani? ”
Army MP Sanjay Raut claimed that the ED’s action against Thackeray’s brother-in-law “painted a picture of a terrible dictatorship arising out of political revenge”. Raut accused the judiciary, administration and central investigative agencies of being “slaves to authoritarian tendencies.” And in the current environment, justice cannot be expected from the courts.
The ED said it had attached assets worth Rs 6.45 crore to a company owned by Thackeray’s brother-in-law Sridhar Madhav Patankar in the money laundering probe. Raut further said that if the BJP thinks that the MVA government in the state can be brought down with pressure by mentioning its main pillar, the army, then they should wake up.
In Baramati, NCP president Sharad Pawar also accused the Center of “misuse” of equipment. He said such misuse of resources by the Center was the biggest problem in the country.
Referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who was also called to New Delhi by a central body for investigation, Raut said that during the 10-year Congress-led UPA regime (2004-2014), a maximum of 22 people were killed. 23 steps were taken by the ED. But since the formation of the Narendra Modi-led government, the activities of the ED have multiplied.
