Mourning socialist leader Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday started following Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma on Twitter, adding to speculation about stress in the Samajwadi Party-led opposition alliance. With the latest addition, Yadav now follows 12 Twitter handles, including the Dalai Lama, President of India, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Office of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav contested the symbol of the Samajwadi Party in the recent assembly elections. But he avoided a meeting of the opposition coalition earlier this week and was sworn in on March 31. He later went to the Chief Minister’s residence here, sparking speculation of his change.
The latest development is being seen as another step towards leaving the opposition alliance of the Progressive Socialist Party (Lohia) chief and joining the BJP. “There should be something new in the new year. On Saturday (the first day of the Hindu New Year), Shivpal started following Modi, Adityanath and Dinesh Sharma (on Twitter), “said Deepak Mishra, spokesperson for the Progressive Socialist Party (Lohia).
