The MLA of Maharajpur constituency of Kanpur district submitted nomination papers for the post of Speaker on Monday.

Veteran BJP MLA Satish Mahana is set to become the Speaker of the 18th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. The MLA of Maharajpur constituency of Kanpur district submitted nomination papers for the post of Speaker on Monday. According to assembly sources, Mahnai was the only candidate to submit his nomination. The deadline was 2 p.m.
In the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Keshab Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak and Senior Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Mahana handed over his nomination papers to Chief Secretary of the Legislative Assembly Pradeep Kumar Dubey. Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra Mona and Jansatta Dal (Democratic) leader Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya were also present.
Governor Anandiben Patel has fixed March 29 for the election of the Speaker. Mohana has been elected MLA for the eighth time from Maharajpur assembly constituency. He was the Minister of Industrial Development in the previous government.
In the recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP won 255 seats out of a total of 403, while its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) got 12 and the weak Indian exploited Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad) got 6. In Uttar Pradesh, the main opposition Samajwadi Party won 111 seats, while its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal won eight and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party six.
Apart from this, Congress got two seats, Jansatta Dal Loktantrik got two seats and Bahujan Samaj Party got one seat.
