TRS leaders, led by Telangana Chief Minister Rao, are protesting in Delhi over rice procurement

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, will hold a day-long dharna against the Center in the national capital on Monday, demanding collection of 1.5 million tonnes of cooked rice from the state. This will be the first TRS protest rally in Delhi since Telangana came to power in 2014.

The party MPs, MLCs, MLAs, full cabinet ministers and elected representatives of urban and rural local bodies will sit in a dharna at the Telangana Bhavan here, TRS MP G Ranjit Reddy said on Sunday.

The TRS has intensified its protests and reached Delhi after the central government rejected Telangana’s request in the current Rabi season.

“The chief minister is expected to lead the protest and Indian Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait is expected to show solidarity with the chief minister on the day of the dharna,” Reddy told PTI.

Explaining the whole controversy over rice procurement, Reddy said the Telangana government was discouraging farmers from cultivating paddy during the Rabi season after the central government refused to buy parbold rice at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Farmers were asked to diversify and as a result ripe paddy was cultivated in 55 lakh acres to 30 acres of land in the state during Rabi season, he said, adding that the area could be further reduced if BJP leaders do not provoke. Farmers will cultivate paddy with the promise of collecting the full amount.

“Union Minister G Kisan Reddy and BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar have encouraged farmers in the state to cultivate paddy during the Rabi season. Farmers have cultivated paddy on 30 acres of land and produced 1.5 million tonnes of cooked rice, ”the TRS leader said, showing video clippings of the two leaders.

The TRS leader further said that the Center was now refusing to procure 1.5 million tonnes of curry rice from Telangana farmers. Reddy said the Center says it can only collect raw rice and not boiled rice which is not widely eaten in India.

The TRS has made all arrangements for the dharna, including billboards and posters bearing the slogans ‘One Country-One Purchase Policy’ and ‘Protect the Interests of Farmers’ set up around the Telangana building in Delhi.

Telangana CM Rao, who is also the president of TRS, has been in the national capital for the last 10 days for a medical check-up and to review the protest arrangements.

Meanwhile, before the protest, on Sunday, TRS leader and MLC K Kavita said the party would fight in the interest of the farmers. Rao’s daughter Kavita said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, TRS will stand and fight in the interest of every farmer.

Accusing the BJP-led NDA government of discriminating against Telangana, the TRS has staged multiple protests in Telangana for almost a week, including roadblocks. The TRS protest came amid a war of words between the TRS and the BJP over paddy procurement.

Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal recently said that the Telangana government had informed in writing that it was not cooked rice, but raw rice would be supplied to the Food Corporation of India. Telangana state BJP president Kumar on Saturday alleged that the TRS government’s “politicization of paddy procurement” was a reminder of a large-scale conspiracy to extort crores of rupees from middlemen and divert farmers’ anger to the Center.

Shimla: On Sunday, BJP president JP Nadda said the party would not replace Himachal Pradesh chief minister Joy Ram Tagore and the upcoming state assembly elections would be contested under his leadership. Asked about the demands of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, Nadda said that Union Minister Anurag Tagore would replace Joy Ram Tagore as the Chief Minister of the state.

Joy Ram Tagore is working and he will continue to do so in the future, Nadda told reporters. He will not be replaced and the BJP will contest the Assembly elections under his leadership, he added.

In response to another question, Nadda said that none of the state ministers would be replaced. He, however, said that 10 to 15 per cent of the current BJP MLAs may not get tickets in the elections. Ten to 15 per cent BJP MLAs did not get tickets in the UP Assembly elections and it is likely to happen here too, he added. Nadda also expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as one of the major political parties in Punjab.

He said the BJP was contesting only 23 of the 117 assembly seats in Punjab as a junior alliance partner but in the recent elections, it contested 68 seats as a senior alliance partner. Thus, the BJP will emerge as a major ideological alternative in Punjab in the next elections, he added. Assembly elections are scheduled for the end of this year in Himachal Pradesh.

Although earlier elections have always been a bipartisan rivalry between the Congress and the BJP, this time the Aam Aadmi Party is trying to gain a foothold in the state. The AAP came to power in Punjab in the just-concluded assembly elections.

The ruling Shiv Sena has become “pseudo-secular” as an activist of the party printed a calendar in Urdu where founder Bal Thackeray was addressed as “Janab”, Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fardnavis said on Sunday. He was speaking to reporters during the campaign for the April 12 Kolapur North Assembly by-election.

“Shiv Sena has become pseudo-secular. However, we are not against any religion or their beliefs, “the former chief minister claimed.

“Every party has idiots who make statements. The BJP will attack from the front, not like this, if it has to. Since the media knew about the attack and not the police, some ruling parties are trying to divert attention by blaming the BJP, ”Farnabis said. He said the BJP would win the Kolhapur North by-election because the party was relying on its chemistry with the people. Votes are more than math.

He accused the MVA of being a “terrorist” in northern Maharashtra and thinks the region has become like West Bengal, a state that has seen a spate of recent political violence, with several people being burnt to death in Birbhum. The former chief minister welcomed wrestler and Kolhapur resident Prithviraj Patil to win the ‘Maharashtra Keshari’ tournament and said his team would pay Rs 5 lakh for training the latter. Shiva he

Jaipur in 17 districts of Rajasthan under section 144 for one month in Karauli scene

In the wake of the Karauli violence, 17 district administrations in Rajasthan, including Jaipur, have issued Section 144 CRPC for one month from Sunday (April 10).

The Rajasthan Home Department has issued guidelines asking organizers to provide details of DJs, loudspeakers and processions played at rallies. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had earlier said it was illegal to use provocative slogans in the name of religion and play loud DJs at rallies.

Several shops were set on fire and many people were injured in clashes and stone pelting in the town of Karauli during clashes between the two communities on April 2.

According to guidelines issued Friday, organizers must submit an affidavit and a letter asking permission to hold the procession, or hold a public program with subdivision officials and additional district magistrates. Officers have been compelled to then verify the submitted documents through the local Station House Officer (SHO). The guideline also stipulates strict adherence to noise pollution regulations.

Organizers must provide the organization’s registration number, contact number and route of the procession. Let them know if a DJ system will be used, and if so, the details of what will be played on it. The police will also check whether the content of the DJ has been checked in their checklist.

On Friday, state police chief ML Lathar said that in the wake of the Karauli arson and violence, participants in the rally raised provocative slogans in minority-inhabited areas. Before the rally, there was a DJ system in a car which was playing songs of Hindu organization.

Of the 44 people identified for communal violence in Rajasthan’s Karauli town, 23 have so far been arrested, the state’s top police official said on Friday. The city has been under curfew since April 2, when a bike passing through a Muslim-populated area was pelted with stones after being provoked by some provocative remarks made by rally protesters. The curfew allows for three hours of relaxation per day.

Director General of Police ML Lathar told a news conference that “so far 23 people have been arrested in connection with the incident which took place during a bike rally on April 2 in Karauli.”

Kerala Congress chief writes to Sonia Gandhi, seeks disciplinary action against KV

K Sudhakaran, president of the Kerala Provincial Congress Committee, in a letter to Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, has recommended “severe and appropriate disciplinary action” against party leader KV Thomas.

Thomas, denying the KPCC’s decision, took the step after attending a seminar organized by the CPI-M in Kannur.

At a seminar on Center-State relations, Thomas lauded Chief Minister Pinarayi Bijayan as one of the best Chief Ministers in the country. Despite still being a member of Congress, Thomas also supported the Silverline rail project, which is being fiercely opposed by the party.

In his letter to Gandhi, the KPCC chief said that the state leadership had unanimously decided not to accept the invitation of the CPI-M’s party congress in Kannur, the district where 80 Congress members were brutally killed.

In the letter, Sudhakaran said, “KV Thomas, a former Union Minister and an AICC member, attended a seminar at the CPI-M’s party congress on April 9. He also attended the press conference for the last two days, condemning the ideology. The Congress party’s position and its political agenda.” During his conversation with the media, he made derogatory statements against the AICC and the state leadership, which deeply hurt the feelings of the party cadres and the families of the martyrs who gave their lives for the survival of our party. “

“After discussions with senior Congress leaders in Kerala, we have come to the conclusion that KV Thomas has violated party discipline and has acted contrary to the direction of the Congress party. Therefore, as the Chairman of the Kerala Provincial Congress Committee I am doing, ”the letter added.

The KPCC chief claimed that until two days ago, he and other senior leaders of Kerala had held talks with Thomas and asked him to refrain from attending the seminar.

UP Congress collapses after Priyanka Gandhi steps down after election defeat, leaders say

It has been almost a month since the Congress suffered its worst defeat in the Assembly elections and the party is now reeling from the absence of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Bhadra.

The party did worse than expected from opinion polls, which saw them at gaining about two-thirds of the 403 seats. About 387 party candidates have had their bails confiscated. Party candidates in 10 seats received less votes than NOTA.

Dissatisfaction with the ruling party is growing and party leaders are being fired or resigned at alarming rates.

“Priyanka Gandhi is not willing to listen to what the Bhadra party workers are saying. He did not come to Lucknow after the election results were announced and his party is happy to take action against anyone who speaks. I am an AICC member but his team expelled him even though it was against the rules. If they think that expelling dissidents will save Congress, they are wrong, “said Zeeshan Haider, a senior leader of the recently expelled party.

He said about 9,000 party leaders and workers had either left or been expelled since Priyanka Gandhi was appointed general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh.

“It seems that Gandhians are not willing to solve problems and problems. For them it doesn’t matter that the party is almost over. The Congress president did not respond to our letter and he did not agree to meet with us, “he added.

Another former Congress MP who spoke to IANS on condition of anonymity said, “Candidates and senior leaders should have called a meeting to discuss the reasons for Priyanka Gandhi Bhadra’s defeat. We are just two years away from the Lok Sabha elections and if this sandy attitude continues Congress will be wiped out in the dustbin of history. “

Surprisingly, Priyanka, who based her campaign on ‘Ladki Huh, Chele Shakti Huh’, did not even look back at the party in the aftermath of the vote.

The state unit is also in a state of turmoil after Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Kumar Lalu was asked to resign last month.

“It simply came to our notice then. None of the party leaders went to the party office and no political activity was taking place after the vote, “said an employee of the UPCC office.
