Excited over Punjab’s victory, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann discusses local body poll plan with AAP

Enthusiastic about winning the recent Punjab Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann seems to be gaining momentum with the adoption of a strategy for the municipal elections to be held later this year.

On Friday, Mann met AAP Punjab in-charge Jarnail Singh to discuss the upcoming elections. According to sources, the two leaders discussed the party structure at the ward level and the “urban development plan” published before the election.

Four municipal corporations – Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala – will go to the polls in December.

The AAP has gone into an overdrive after its stellar performance in the Punjab Assembly elections where it won 92 out of 117 seats and plans to hold an election blitzkrieg in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat later this year.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has given the responsibility of overseeing the citizen elections to Jarnail Singh, who played a key role in the party’s impressive performance in the recent Chandigarh Corporation elections.

According to AAP sources, the top brass are taking the election of civic bodies seriously to keep pace. Jarnail Singh says winning local body elections is politically important because it will help the party reach out to the grassroots.

Sources further said that AAP is in the final stages of drawing a blueprint for implementing the promised development agenda in the urban areas.

AAP won eight assembly seats under Patiala Corporation, 13 out of 14 seats in Ludhiana Corporation, nine out of 11 in Amritsar Corporation and four out of nine in Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. Former Patiala mayor Ajitpal Singh Kohli is now an AAP MLA, after defeating former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the current mayor of Amritsar, Karamjit Singh Rintu, joined the AAP on the eve of assembly elections.
