BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday slammed Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s foreign trip for linking the construction of Kanpur Metro and Lucknow Expressway, emphasizing the right thinking and vision for overall development, not a foreign tour. He was referring to Yadav’s remarks during a welcome address to the state assembly on Tuesday electing Satish Mahana as speaker of the house. After reading the House Speaker’s political experience, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Akhilesh Yadav mentioned that Mahana had visited 35 countries.

Meanwhile, the BSP has announced its candidate for the Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-election, after Akhilesh Yadav vacated his seat in the state assembly. The party led by Mayawati has declared former MLA Guddu Jamali as its candidate for the seat. A legislator from 2017 to 2022, Jamali was the leader of the BSP legislature party in the last Uttar Pradesh assembly but was sacked shortly before the election.
He later contested the 2022 Assembly elections as AIMIM candidate from Mubarakpur constituency of Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency but lost to the Samajwadi Party. He later returned to the BSP.
