Lather has been recognized as the leader of the opposition since March 28, according to a statement issued on Monday.

Samajwadi Party MLC Sanjay Lather has been made Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Principal Secretary Rajesh Singh said here on Tuesday. The post has been vacant since the death of Samajwadi Party MLC Ahmed Hasan in February.

Lather has been recognized as the leader of the opposition since March 28, according to a statement issued Monday. Lather’s term as a member of the Legislative Council expires on May 26, 2022. In the 100-seat Legislative Assembly, the ruling BJP has 34 members, the Samajwadi Party 17, the BSP four, the Congress and the Apna Dal (Sonelal) one each, teachers. The party (non-political party) has two members, one independent group, one independent and one member of the weak Indian exploited Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad).

Elections are being held in 36 constituencies from local government constituencies and polling will be held on April 9. The votes will be counted on April 12. Candidates for some of these seats have been elected unopposed.
