Stalin’s intervention was intended to send a signal to ministers that there was little tolerance for laziness in the chief minister’s office.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has removed a minister from his cabinet after a subordinate minister filed a video alleging racist slander against him.

A press release said that the portfolio of Minister Raja Kannappan has been changed to the welfare of the backward class among other sub-portfolios. The transport portfolio in his hands has been exchanged and handed over to S Shivasankar.

According to official sources, Stalin’s intervention was intended to send a signal to ministers that there was little tolerance for sloppy behavior in the chief minister’s office, especially in the form of crying.

The block development officer who was harassed complained in a video that Kannapan referred to his caste in a rather patronizing tone.

This is Stalin’s first cabinet reshuffle since taking over as chief minister in the middle of last year. According to news agency PTI, the transfer of the first portfolio since the DMK took power in May 2021 is significant because the DMK does not usually reshuffle its cabinet.

King Kannapan is known in the political arena for his financial strength. He jumped into both Dravidian teams during his career – the last change being from AIADMK to DMK in February 2020.
