Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Friday accused the BJP of conspiring to make Mumbai a union territory, saying a presentation had been made to the home ministry. Speaking to reporters here, Raut alleged that former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya and a group of party leaders, producers and businessmen were part of the conspiracy.

“A presentation has been made by MHA (by this group) on making Mumbai a Union Territory. A meeting has been held for this and funds are being collected. It’s been going on for the last two months and I’m talking about full responsibility. I have proof to prove what I am saying. The Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) is also aware of this development, “Raut said.

In the next few months, the Somaiya-led group may go to court that the percentage of Marathi population in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, has dropped drastically and so the city should be made a Union Territory under central government rule, demanded Army MP Md.

Raut said Somaiya had earlier challenged the state government’s decision to make Marathi the compulsory language in schools.
