A local court here has summoned Sunil Mawa, who runs a civil society group – Jammu and Kashmir Reunification Front – for making defamatory remarks against former state chief minister Farooq Abdullah and others. Nasir Aslam Wani, the provincial president of the National Conference, has lodged a complaint with Chief Judicial Magistrate Farooq Ahmed Bhat alleging that Mawa had given an interview on a web portal where he had made derogatory remarks against Abdullah, his son Omar and the complainant.
Following a hearing on Wednesday, the court ordered Mawa to be summoned and posted the matter for April 8. The accused will be charged under section 500 of the IPC (Defamation).
“Therefore, the aforesaid offense has been admitted as such summons has been issued to the accused to appear before this court at the next hearing. The summons should be sent to SHO Police Station Karan Nagar, Srinagar to execute the accused along with a copy of the complaint,” the order said.
