The Delhi Assembly is trying to be paperless, with all 70 MLAs getting iPads

One more step ahead of the Delhi Assembly becoming paperless on Thursday, 70 MLAs got iPads to get information and documents on online legislation.

Speaker Ram Nibas Goel has urged legislators to carry iPads provided by the Delhi government’s finance department during the ongoing budget session. “We want to implement a completely paperless system for accessing documents and information online. The legislature has also been given a WiFi connection and the budget address of the finance minister and other documents will be available on the legislators’ iPad,” he said. .

The legislature has adopted an automation project that will enable MLAs to work digitally – submit questions and notices and table bills online. A request was issued for a proposal by the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat to select a successful bidder for the implementation of the automation project.

The project also includes a facility for legislators to actually attend House activities. It aims to transform assembly functionality from a manual to a web-based digital solution, as well as for paperless speed and efficiency.
