The football club, which will be launched on April 15, aims to challenge Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
Football and politics are inseparable in West Bengal. Thinking along the same lines, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is all set to launch Diamond Harbor Football Club on April 15, which is also the day of Bengali New Year. Banerjee is a Member of Parliament for Diamond Harbor, and was first elected in 2014.
The logo of the club will be decided by the public, for which a special competition is underway. Those interested can design the logo and send it to a WhatsApp number by April 10.
Club insiders said there was a huge interest among the players to get a chance in the team as it would be aimed at challenging the club football, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal seniors. The club has already started promoting on social media and has teaser trailers on Facebook, Twitter, Ku and Instagram.
Banerjee has been managing the MP Football Cup for four years now. He said: “I told you last year that we were planning to bring in a club; Now, we are bringing one and all the good performers will get a chance to play here. ”
The club has already applied for membership from the Indian Football Association. Former footballer Krishnendu Roy will be the coach.
The Diamond Harbor Club website states: “A club that nurtures budding athletes and provides a platform to pursue their dreams. The goal of Diamond Harbor Football Club is to achieve the impossible. A club full of emerging athletes who dare to dream, who dare to go above and beyond.
